![]() ![]() I remember having paint put in an aerosol can before quite some time ago but when I last checked, it seemed they weren't doing that any longer. ![]() Probably 20 years ago I did this and I seem to remember it was about $20 a can, which translates into probably $30 a can these days. My exterior paint code is actually listed as 18, which is Medium Gray. But, it was listed on the paint chip pages I saw at the store. This is also not found in the list above, or anywhere else I have found online. It’s notable that according to the reference Space Age Paint has, my exterior finish is Dark Smoke Metallic. And yes, it is a darker blue not grey or charcoal or black. And, when I redid the headlining in April there were no obvious differences between exposed and hidden sections.Īnd-while I’ve always believed I have a Raven interior (because I have not seen a darker one in pictures than mine), clearly the paint code for Raven is different than Shadow Blue. So the question is: if Ford sold me the correct shade of touch-up paint based on my interior paint code, is that paint code wrong.or has the paint discolored that badly? The argument against the latter is that all the rest of the interior matches. In bright sunlight it’s clear that’s not the correct shade, it’s much lighter. I had purchased some spray Interior touch-up paint from a Ford Parts Department more than 20 years ago, and I used that to repaint the glove compartment latch (I got it NOS and it wasn’t painted), as well as the manual transmission console panel (the circular part around the gearshift). It turned out the ACTUAL shade was Shadow Blue (shown as B Lnot B H), which was much closer. So I went back there and brought a piece of the old console with me, which probably would have been a good idea in the first place. I had made some photographs of the paint chip pages, but the lighting was poor, so they were practically useless. When I got home it was immediately obvious that this was the wrong shade. The total cost for all this was about $50, and of course mixed paint cannot be returned to refunded. I settled on the Midnight Blue because I thought it looked close, and had the store mix some up as touch-up and also put some in a spray can. After some digging around they found some old Ford sheets from 1987-88 that had paint chips on them. I asked if they had any reference material there, as they are a paint shop. The Mach 1 Silver was never produced or may be the Silver Blue color)Īs you can see, there is no BH code listed. The chart below is from, found after some searching:ġ987 Turbo Coupe (There was also a Bright Red Mach 1 Special Edition color. BUT, as it turned out, they were a little-shall we say-incorrect. I had my paint codes from the door pillar. I had just completed the modification on the center console that was part of the BossAudio double-DIN installation, and that plastic piece needed to be repainted. ![]() You might end up with the wrong paint.Ī couple of years ago I was at a paint store that has served me well over the past 25+ years, Space Age Paint in Mesa, AZ. Well, you shouldn’t do this, because first off interior paint is going to formulated differently than exterior paint-I would think because it must be low odor and for breathable plastics and vinyl-so it’s going to have to be a very specialized paint store.Īnd, the paint has changed over the past 30+ years, possibly due to aging and fading. When you say most paint stores, do you mean like auto paint stores or ? Was looking for something in a spray can for vinyl or plastic.
